I am really okay with CrashPlan and not looking for a change. Files off a deeply nested tree structure were silently not being backed up. I had an issue with Backblaze in the distant past which caused me to find CrashPlan. But I've never spent enough of my valuable time to get this to work (on Synology), so I have it running on my PC.

On the PC at least, the software is partly JAVA-based, and backing up a large dataset requires you to modify the JVM heap size. You can push it along if you open the desktop client and click to backup now. the software seems to decide when to start backing up a particular set. I've done restores, and that works too, though the interface is less than intuitive (I think that applies to a lot of backup programs and services). Everything on that drive goes to CrashPlan on a continuous basis. I have an external staging drive attached to my PC. That said, the service works, with issues.
I used their personal plan and had a not-fun time transitioning to their Small Business plan when they discontinued it. I am using CrashPlan for quite a number of years. I have read all the features and promises on the respective websites, but I am asking here, because I want to hear what people have experienced with said services themselves.

If the plan has a mobile included it is a nice to have, but not a must, since I tend to regularly back up my phone data on my pc.Īnother big plus would be if I can back up my external drives (around 15 of them, each about 500 GB) without having to plug them in a certain period of time, just so that the data does not get deleted.
